Fall outlook: lower water should bunch fish together. Rainbows should bite better and move shallower as it cools, and walleye push shallow early and late to feed on them.

Rainbows take nightcrawler under a bobber, dough bait, spinners, spoons, marabou jigs and streamers. Crappie school near bottom in deeper water; bluegill take a worm-tipped small hook under a float.
Catches of cutthroat and lake trout have been very good and climbing, with 65 degree surface water on Sept. 9. Troll flatfish, jointed Rapalas or flasher and squid in 65 to 100 feet, or bounce tubes on half-ounce to one-ounce heads tipped with cisco on bottom. The lake is down about 4 feet; limit is two trout.
Low water means launching at the Rainbow Cove or Cisco Beach ramps calls for four-wheel drive.
Fall outlook: both rainbow and tiger trout were stocked again in 2026, with tigers to 20 inches and rainbows near 18. Rainbows take nightcrawler under a bobber, dough bait, spinners, spoons and streamers. Tigers and cutthroat mostly hit lures such as spinners, spoons, marabou jigs and streamers.

Statewide, kokanee must be released from Sept. 10 to Nov. 30. Above the reservoir, both forks of the river's South Fork are closed from Aug. 15 until 6 a.m. on September's final Saturday.

Fall outlook: fewer people and plenty of fish, even at roadside lakes on the Mirror Lake Highway, but weather turns fast, so expect cold and possible snow; some lakes may allow ice fishing by late November. Rainbows take nightcrawler, dough bait, spinners, spoons and streamers; tiger and brook trout mostly hit lures.
Fall outlook: walleye and wiper move shallow as it cools; cast white crankbaits and spinnerbaits, and in September throw shad lures into wiper boils with a fast retrieve. Catfish take a bottom-fished worm off sandy or mucky shores. Smallmouth hit a worm-tipped jig under a float cast 5 to 10 feet from the dike.
Fall outlook: brown trout are abundant and average 11 inches, and anglers are urged to keep their limit so the rest can grow. Foam hoppers with a dropper, caddis, mayfly and stonefly patterns, Panther Martin or Blue Fox spinners, curly tail jigs, nightcrawlers and orange salmon eggs all work.

Kokanee anglers are limiting at 40 to 70 feet on pink or purple gear. Rainbows and cutthroat bite at 15 to 50 feet in coves; smallmouth are shallow.

Ash and debris washed in off the burned Forsyth Fire area during fall 2025 and summer 2026, cutting oxygen and water quality, and some fish have died. Fall outlook: catchable rainbows go in once the water cools, around late October to early November; young largemouth and bluegill are still growing.

Ash from the 2022 and 2025 fires cut fish numbers from Kanab Creek down to Tropic Reservoir, but Blubber and Kanab creeks held up well with fish to 14 to 16 inches.
Fall outlook: browns in the lower reaches, campground down to Asay Creek, turn aggressive before spawning and take streamers, egg flies, spinners, Rapalas and jigs. Cutthroat and tigers in the upper reaches can fish good to great, with some to 15 inches. Much of the lower creek is posted private land.
Whirling disease is present; clean and fully dry waders before fishing elsewhere, and never move fish from this creek.
The Wild Goose and Widemouth 2 fires burned most Millard County streams, and ash losses may stay unknown until next year. Fall outlook: streams hold plenty of wild trout, and pre-spawn browns hit streamers, egg flies, spinners, Rapalas and jigs. Oak Creek sampling found many 6 to 10 inch browns.
Expected forest closures will probably block access to these streams through fall.

Low oxygen and hot water likely caused a large fish kill here in late July, and more updates are expected.
A significant fish kill was reported July 31, 2026, and the reservoir may give off a foul smell.
From July 2 to Oct. 1 anglers may keep six wipers and 16 trout of any species, with spearfishing open. Spring netting found carryover rainbows now 9 to 12 inches, plenty of 16 to 22 inch fish and wipers over 10 pounds. Summer outlook: rainbows go deep, so boats beat shore, which is best on steep south end banks.
A full drawdown for dam repair and upkeep means every species has no limit from July 2 through Oct. 1.

Flows are 70 to 90 cfs, and smallmouth, channel catfish and native species have fished well this summer. When it runs clear, try small jigs or spinners in pools, riffles and slow water. Fly anglers can try bright bead-head or tungsten nymphs near log jams, rocks and backwaters for bass.

Many cutthroat streams are closed to protect spawners from May 15 until 6 a.m. on July's second Saturday.
Summer outlook: expect fast bluegill and largemouth action, with topwater best early and late, while trout head deeper and cooler. The reservoir only reached about 42% in 2026 and was at 38% active storage by mid-June. The ramp reaches the conservation pool, so launching works all year.

Nightcrawler, shrimp and cut white bass or carp work, with fresh white bass best lately. Channel cats average 4 to 6 pounds, so use heavy line. Mosquitoes are thick at dusk.
Summer outlook: smallmouth bass are the main draw and spread across the reservoir. Walleye bite best early, late or under clouds, and rainbows hold 10 to 30 feet deep in the heat. Levels can drop as much as a foot daily. Walleye limit is 20 with no size rule; perch limit is 10.
Do not move the wedge dock yourself; staff reposition it as water levels change.
Summer outlook: wiper, walleye and largemouth are the main predators, and perch, crappie and bluegill suit families. Fishing picks up once water reaches 55 to 60 degrees; wipers feed mornings and evenings. Tiger trout are stocked each fall.
Water is very low at 28% of active capacity, so boat with caution.

Rainbow fishing has been excellent on zooplankton and midges; look deeper once it heats up. Carp up to 30 pounds cruise the shallows for bow and spear anglers.

Summer outlook: heavy recreation makes weekends hard, so weekday mornings and evenings are better. Trout fishing is fair to good; try nightcrawler under a bobber, floating dough bait or marshmallow with crawler, spinners, spoons, swimbaits and woolly buggers.
Tibble Fork and Silver Lake Flat lots often fill by 10:00am on weekends, so have a backup plan.
As of June 9, dam releases had climbed to a 4600 cfs daily mean, with a drop to 1600 cfs planned from June 13. Fishing had been excellent but should slow in high water. Nymphs catch the most fish; white streamers, terrestrials and spinners also work.
High releases make the river fast, cold and hazardous; at Indian Crossing, the bridge becomes dangerous over 3500 cfs and cannot be passed near 4500 cfs.
