Fall outlook: rainbows move shallow as it cools; try dough bait or worms near drop-offs, spoons and spinners, or trolled crankbaits, pop gear and squid-and-dodger, especially early and late. Browns, splake and cutthroat come closer to shore and hit flies, crankbaits, jigs and spoons near rocky points.
Statewide, kokanee must be released from Sept. 10 to Nov. 30. Upstream tributaries, including the Little Bear's East Fork, are closed from Aug. 15 until 6 a.m. on September's final Saturday.

Fishing rules
- Limit: 12 trout and kokanee salmon, of which no more than 4 may be rainbow, cutthroat or brown trout combined; a full 12 requires at least 8 kokanee.
- Boats may not go faster than wakeless speed.
- Ice fishing: up to six lines allowed; anyone running more than two lines must put their name on each line, pole or tip-up and may tend only their own lines.
